While Orcas and Lopez allows the boater to see the art in nature, San Juan reminds us that art is also a part of human nature. Several artists call San Juan home, with over 20 galleries located on the island.
San Juan is also a beautiful island, covering 55.3 square miles. It is home to American Camp, British Camp, and Lime Kiln State Park, which has one of the best views in the San Juans.
It is also home to one of the archipelago's most quaint villages, Roche Harbor. This quiet seaside village is also the home of the Hotel de Haro, a 22-room hotel with foot thick walls and a beautiful garden. Also of interest is the "Retirement of the Colors" ceremony that takes place during the summer right before sunset. It is a very time-honored tradition, capped off by a one loud cannon shot at the end of the ceremony.
